Assault victim taken to hospital
A person was taken to hospital after an assault at the intersection of Dixon St and Memorial Drive in Masterton late on Saturday afternoon. The incident was reported to police at about 4.30 pm. Police remained at the scene making enquiries after the victim was taken to hospital.

Consultation on the South Wairarapa District Council’s [SWDC] annual plan closed on Saturday, with more than 140 people having their say. The annual plan for 2023-2024 contains the SWDC proposed budget for the next financial year. Submissions will be tabled with councillors during the next stage, which involves hearings and deliberations. SWDC announced on its website the next step would be hearings followed by deliberations on 8 and 9 June, with 14 June available as a backup day if needed.
Two-car crash in Featherston
Police confirmed two cars were involved in a crash at the intersection of State Highway 53 and Kahutara Rd near Featherston late yesterday morning. Four people were reported to have moderate injuries. A Fire Emergency New Zealand spokesperson confirmed two Featherston trucks attended the incident, and FENZ staff from across the district assisted with traffic control and scene protection.
KiwiRail consultation
KiwiRail is hosting a meeting today, and another one on Wednesday at the Carterton Events Centre to share information and collect feedback on proposals to close level crossings on Wairarapa Line. The meetings are today at 12.30 pm and on Wednesday at 6.30 pm. Of 17 public level crossings in the Carterton district area, KiwiRail proposes to close four.
Burglary in Carterton
Police are investigating a burglary of business premises on High St North in Carterton on Saturday night. The incident was reported shortly after 10 pm that night. Police attended the scene, but the offenders had fled.
