Driver escapes injury after car flips

Despite the dramatic-looking scene, those involved in a crash – that saw a four-hour cordon in place on State Highway 2 [SH2] in Carterton – have escaped without injury. Emergency services were called to the two-car crash on SH2, High St South shortly before 6pm on Friday.

A car reportedly flipped into a driveway, landing on its driver’s side, after colliding with a parked vehicle.

Fire and Emergency [Fenz] said nobody was trapped, and the driver declined treatment from Wellington Free Ambulance.

Powerco confirmed a crew was called to the scene for a car versus power pole incident on High St South on Friday at 5.45pm: “The pole was checked and found not to be damaged The power supply was not affected by the incident.”

Fenz said Carterton Fire Brigade stayed on scene managing traffic and providing scene safety for close to four hours while Powerco carried out its assessment and the vehicles involved were towed.

A suspected medical event was thought to be the cause of another crash in the region on Friday, with emergency services attending a two-car crash in Featherston at 4.15pm.

Wellington Free Ambulance confirmed one person received treatment at the scene, but did not require hospitalisation.

However, in a separate incident, police confirmed one person was transported to hospital in a moderate condition after a single-vehicle crash in Hinakura yesterday afternoon.
