SW chief
executive

South Wairarapa District Council hopes to make a decision on the chief executive role on May 10, after the sudden resignation of Harry Wilson, who had been in the role for almost four years. Wilson had his last day in the role yesterday, a day after South Wairarapa Mayor Martin Connelly announced his resignation. A council spokesperson has confirmed that Paul Gardner – the council’s general manager of Human Resources and Corporate Services – was acting chief executive in the interim.

Public meeting

Greytown Safety on Main Street – the group fighting the proposed third access to Greytown’s supermarket – is holding a public meeting next week. The meeting will be the second within a year in the town to discuss the resource consent application from Woolworths NZ, which would see a driveway established to Fresh Choice via 134 Main St. The group says the gathering will be held at the local Working Men’s Club on Thursday at 7pm to discuss the revised application. South Wairarapa District Council requested more information from the supermarket giant after its initial application in June last year. The council received the revised application in April and publicly notified it on May 1. Since then, Woolworths NZ has also lodged a controversial request for a Certificate of Compliance for the removal of a copper beech tree at the section.

Road users will also encounter stop-go traffic control further north on the state highway near Cashmere Oaks Drive in Masterton on Friday, May 12 from 8am-4pm for road repairs, and near Mt Bruce from Monday to Wednesday between 7am and 4pm. Works also continue on SH53 next week, with stop-go controls in place near Murphy’s Line intersection on Tuesday from 8am-4pm for asphalt resurfacing. Stop-go controls will also be in place near Wards Line and Bidwills Cutting Rd on Thursday from 7am-4pm for drainage work.
