Nearly 1000 houses were left without power yesterday in Masterton. Power went off after an insulator failed on a power pole at 12.23pm. The power cut affected 917 properties in Kuripuni and East Masterton . Powerco restored electricity to all affected properties by 2:20pm.
Colombo
assault
A person was hospitalised in moderate condition after being found with injuries at a Colombo Rd Masterton address. Police responded to the report of a serious assault at 7am on Monday morning and put a scene guard in place at the house. Enquiries are ongoing to determine how the person came to be injured.

After a powercut at Webstar, the Times-Age’s commercial printer in Masterton, Monday’s paper was printed at Stuff’s printing plant in Petone, marking the first time the paper has been printed south of the Remutaka Hill.
Car crashes
Police received a report of a two-vehicle crash on Carverthen St, Masterton, at 10.40pm Sunday. There were no injuries or road blockages, but one person was taken into custody. Police said enquiries were ongoing. Police responded to a single-vehicle crash near the intersection of Ponatahi Rd and Foreman-Jury Rd in Ponatahi at about 9.40am on Monday. One person received minor injuries.
Speed
consultation
Masterton District Council is looking for feedback on its speed management plan. The plan contains a 10-year vision and a three-year implementation plan for the council’s 800km road network. Consultation surveys can be completed at mstn.govt.nz by searching “Draft Speed Management Plan for the Masterton District.” Those filling out a consultation form may also choose to present their view to the council. A hearing will be held on Wednesday, May 17, and Thursday, May 18, 2023, where members of the public will get five to 10 minutes to present feedback to elected members.
