Covid cases rise

Wairarapa has recorded 106 new covid cases in the past week, and no further deaths, with the total number of deaths attributed to covid remaining at 49. The Ministry of Health reported 11,171 new cases of the virus in New Zealand in the past seven days and 24 further deaths. Of these people, 13 were women, and 11 were men. Three people were in their 60s, five were in their 70s and 16 were in their 80s or 90s. Of the new cases recorded nationally, 4630 were reinfections.

New wheels for
ambo service

Wellington Free Ambulance [WFA] has increased its fleet with the launch of two new trucks. The family of the original WFA service founder, Sir Charles Norwood, was acknowledged for donating in a blessing ribbon-cutting ceremony at the weekend. WFA said the two new emergency trucks would go into service immediately, responding to calls across Wellington and Wairarapa.

shares in Lotto

A ticket bought from Masterton’s Countdown outlet was one of 20 second division winners in Saturday’s Lotto draw, winning the purchaser $24,497. The draw – a cyclone relief special in which half of all Lotto, Powerball, and Strike tickets sales will go to support those impacted by Cyclone Gabrielle – also saw a Powerball player from Canterbury scoop $15.5 million [$15m from Powerball first division and $500,000 from Lotto first division], while an Auckland player was also rewarded with $500,000 from Lotto first division.

Fund opens
for applications

Tararua’s Mayoral Relief Fund, set up to support those suffering financial hardship caused by Cyclone Gabrielle, is now open for applications. Tararua district residents, ratepayers, small business owners [including self-employed and sole traders] and not-for-profit organisations can apply for support. TDC said the fund would provide one off assistance for extraordinary circumstance, where a real need can be shown. To apply, visit: tararuadc.govt.nz/…/sup…/mayoral-relief-fund.
