Crime leaves
a cold feeling
In the early hours of Thursday morning, a chiller trailer was stolen from the Trust House Recreation Centre in Masterton. The mobile fridge, worth thousands of dollars, was being loaned to the Golden Shears for storing food and alcohol.
Police said enquiries were ongoing.
Arrest made
after assault
Police have arrested a 38-year-old man for his involvement in an alleged assault in South Wairarapa. Police responded to reports of an assault on Whangaimoana Beach Rd at 10pm on Thursday. Police said it appeared one person received minor injuries in the attack. The man is due to appear in Masterton District Court on Monday on charges of common assault.
Carterton crash
A collision between a cyclist and a vehicle has left one person in hospital. Emergency services responded to the car versus bicycle incident on Carterton’s High St at 5.45pm on Thursday. Police said the driver of the car was taken to hospital with moderate injuries, but the condition of the cyclist was unknown. Wellington Free Ambulance confirmed it attended the incident and that one patient was transported to Wairarapa Hospital.
Roadworks
continue
Three stretches of SH2 between Greytown and Featherston will have stop/go traffic management in place from 7pm to 6am from Sunday to Thursday due to chip seal resurfacing. South of Greytown to Tauherenikau will be resurfaced on Sunday and Monday night. SH2 north of Featherston, near Boundary Rd, will be resurfaced on Tuesday night, and further north on SH2 near Camp Rd will be resurfaced on Thursday night.
A 30kmh speed limit will be in place for two days and nights after the new chip seal layer is laid.
Stop-go traffic management will also be in place at Mt Bruce during the day from 7am to 7pm, Monday to Friday next week while Waka Kotahi is installing barriers.
