Roof claim

Masterton District Council has lodged an insurance claim to replace the roof structure over the rear children’s paddling pool at Trust House Recreation Centre. The pool was closed last month due to safety concerns after roofing was found damaged. It appeared the damage was caused by a person or group of people trying to climb over the roof. A recent report to the council’s Infrastructure and Services Committee said the poly-carbonate roofing sheets over this area were damaged and an initial assessment was that roof replacement rather than repair would be required. The cost of replacing the roof was not included in the report. – NZLDR

Opportunity for older athletes

Wairarapa will soon play host to the Senior Regional Games, an annual event in Wellington that provides older adults with the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of fun, light-exercise sports and activities in a safe, non-competitive environment. The free event helps build confidence and celebrate physical activity, regardless of age, fitness, or physical ability. The event also offers the chance to socialise with friends, meet new people, and learn more about activities regularly available in the community. Nuku Ora is working with Positive Ageing Strategy and other Wairarapa organisations to bring this event to Wairarapa for the first time. It will be held on March 30 at the Trust House Recreation Centre. An earlier attempt to have the games in Wairarapa was cancelled due to covid-19. – NZLDR
