Pop-up space
exhibit extended
Space is proving to be popular, and with over 3000 visitors flocking to the Wairarapa Space Science Centre, the call has been made to keep the doors open for Waitangi Weekend. The couple behind the pop-up, Haritina Mogosanu and Sam Leske, said the response had been “massive”. “The feedback from people has been overwhelmingly positive.” With the exhibition extended until Monday, February 6, they said people would have the opportunity to learn about the new internationally accredited Wairarapa Dark Sky Reserve and take part in the exhibition’s interactive experiences, including driving Mars rovers and touring the International Space Station through a virtual reality headset. The Space Science Centre is open from 10am-6pm on the corner of Holloway and Main streets in Carterton.

On the road
Waka Kotahi NZTA is urging road users to plan ahead and expect delays on the highways this Waitangi Weekend. It said motorists should check the latest information on road closures and restrictions before starting their journeys and to allow plenty of extra time. NZTA said several parts of New Zealand remained under Metservice heavy rain watches and warnings in the North Island, from north of Auckland to Coromandel and Taranaki. Metservice is forecasting rain for Wairarapa and the Tararua Range this afternoon, with scattered showers continuing tomorrow through until Monday.
