New kiwi chick

Pukaha Wildlife Centre welcomed a new kiwi chick yesterday. MB117 is the 117th chick to be hatched as part of the breed-for-release programme. It will receive an official name when we get to know a bit more about its personality. A spokesperson said that, at this age, all a kiwi chick wants to do is snooze the day away. The team will update followers when the chick will be visible to the public either during feeding time or when it moves into the Nocturnal House to learn how to be a bigger kiwi.

Truck stuck

An overly optimistic angle by a turning truck held up traffic on Masterton’s State Highway 2 yesterday. The truck, turning left onto SH2 from Perry St, collided with the facade of Allure Concept Boutique and became wedged. Traffic dodged around it for several minutes as the driver attempted to free the vehicle. A second vehicle and tow rope eventually freed the stuck truck, pulling it backwards off the facade.
