Road closures
for the region

Heavy rain over the past week has affected multiple roads, with some remaining closed or virtually impassable. Carterton District Council said Arawhata Hill [Te Wharau Rd] between Flatpoint Rd and Glenburn Rd, Glenburn Rd, and Kaiwhata Rd was accessible by four-wheel-drive vehicles only, while South Wairarapa District Council said only four-wheel-drives could tackle White Rock Rd. In South Wairarapa Tora and Pahaoa roads remained closed. Masterton District Council advised residents that crews were onsite at a washout on Homewood and a slip on Tanglewood roads yesterday and said Otahome and Ngahape roads were open to residents only.

Meanwhile, the council said a tree was blocking Puketiritiri Rd after the last house. The councils advised extreme caution to motorists when driving these roads as slips, trees and debris could block the roads again at any time. In Tararua, the district council advised that Route 52, had been reopened after a slip. It said multiple large cracks had been identified in the paddock above the site, enabling rainwater to enter and flow underground through the soil towards the slump on the road. “These cracks can only be dealt with effectively once the ground is dry.”
