BIDWILL CUP FINAL
Burger King Red are the Bidwill Cup champions after the weekend’s final was washed out.
Only 12 overs were possible on Saturday, with Red Star having progressed their score to 62-1, with Jake Jonas 44 not out. Heavy rain over Saturday afternoon and night left the Queen Elizabeth Park Oval pitch and outfield saturated, resulting in play being called off yesterday morning.
Red Star win the championship, having been the top qualifiers after the round-robin.
WAIRARAPA T20 LEAGUE FINAL
Andy Dodd turned on a captain’s knock and batted throughout the innings to lead his OG Strikers team to a five-wicket victory over Forrester Valuation Vikings in the inaugural T20 final on Friday night.
The experienced left-hander and Tom Broughton ensured there would be no wobbles chasing the Vikings’ below par score of 121-9 on Queen Elizabeth Park Oval.
The pair put on 81 runs for the first wicket, with Broughton out for a well-compiled 30. Dodd’s was a measured innings, with a mix of aggression, superbly placed singles, and excellent running between the wickets. His 56 not out came from 54 balls and featured eight fours.
However, Dodd would have been thanking his Strikers bowlers who did all the early damage, restricting the Vikings’ dangerous and in-form top order of Gus Borren, Jake Jonas, Nathan Elliott, and Andrew Taylor to just 45 runs between them.
Number six George Deans top scored with 22 in a batting line-up that never came to grips with the tight Strikers’ bowling.
