Our 9-hole members played their first round of the Trekkers Trophy at Eketahuna Golf Course over the front nine holes. The travelling contingent reported a lovely sunny calm day and enjoyed lunch after their round to share the war stories. The top results were Wayne Buck with a nett 35, Alex Macdonald 42, and Terry Price 42.
A field of 30 players turned out for the last Vets competition of the year to enjoy a stableford round. Scores were Brian McKeown 43, Trevor Clayton 40, Glenys Vincent, Julie Murray 38, Ian Brinkworth 37, Alan Loan, Murray Smith, Clive Vincent, Max Baylis, Terry Price 36. Twos went to Lesley Sadler, Brian McKeown & Alan Loan. Nearest the pin; Alan Loan. Longest Putt; Ron O’Neale.
It was a cool overcast night for Wednesday’s Twilight Golf but that didn’t stop some good scores being made. Results were Brian Field 28, Mark Johnstone 25, Tina Bailey 24, Maxine Moss 23, Craige Burt 23, & Les Cherry 22. Nearest the pins went to Nic Craig and Darryn Wilkins. Admirals Challenge longest putt went to Mark Johnstone. Prov’s Nett Birdie was split between: Brian Field, Mark Johnstone, Barry Orme, Neil Johnstone and Nic Craig. The putting competition was won by: Mark Johnstone, James O’Connor, Darryn Wilkins and Colin Larsen all with 17 putts.
On Saturday the 18-hole members played their first round in the Summer Cup, the best 3 of 5 stableford scores will count, the second round will be held on Saturday with the remining in early-2023. The haggle of the day was a mixed nett competition with very slick 62 from Graham Hutchby to take the win. Val Edwards 45, Lynn Evans 65, Nic Craig (playing lefthanded) 67, & Nick MacDonald 67. Twos went to Nigel Bain, Trevor Barnard, Lynn Evans, Peter Woodcock, and Nick MacDonald. The 9-hole members played a stableford round over the back 9, top results went to Wayne Buck on 18 points, Ann Richardson 17, Alex MacDonald 16, Terry Price 16, and Tam Buckingham 14. Nearest to the Pin went to Terry Price on hole 12.

MEN’S MATCH COMMITTEE
There were four trophy finals played over the weekend, with David Cook and Mike Falloon winning the Baker Four-Ball final over Dave Inglis and Hira Renata, Simon Buckley defeating Geoff Masters on the last hole to win the Oldfield Rose Bowl, Nuki Gordon and Thomas Kainuku winning the Captain’s Trophy over Simon Buckley and Ray Verhaart, and Murray Wolland and Serena Philipps winning the Jimmy Shearer Trophy. All were high-quality matches, with the Captain’s Trophy going to the 20th hole, despite Nuki shooting his personal best round.

Special Awards
Elliott Cup [Most Promising Junior] – Luke Lange
Luke was a deserving winner of this prestigious trophy after showing great improvement in his game and his character and attitude he showed on and off the course. His selection into the Wellington Junior development squad was another acknowledgment of that.
Elliott Award [Most Improved Junior] – James Crawley
James was the obvious choice for this award after only starting golf this year and cutting his handicap from 28.3 in May to the 11 handicap he is now on! Alongside Allan Carroll he won the Jameson Cup and his name will surely feature on more trophies next year
Bob Mcdonald Trophy [Best Under 19 Gross on Club Day] – Jamie Frew
Jamie’s personal best score of 68 in January meant he got to take home this trophy for another year. Jamie also collected an award for the Best Junior Nett on Club day courtesy of this round
Forrester Cup [Player of the year] – Sam Forrester
The Forrester Cup is played throughout the year with points being awarded for a host of competitions. Sam won this for the 6th time since its inception in 2010 with Dave Cook finishing 2nd on the points ladder.
The last of the Men’s club trophies were played over the weekend, concluding an eventful and busy year. Congratulations to all the winners. A few highlights of the year included:
Ex-Masterton member Jeff Tuoro winning his second Wairarapa Open which included a brilliant 1st round 65; Sam Forrester winning the Senior Club Championships, the Senior Strokeplay title and Ricoh Shootout to earn Player of the Year honours; David Cook winning the Intermediate Club Championships for the first time and also winning the Baker Four-Ball alongside Mike Falloon; Shannon Rimene in his first attempt winning the Junior Club Championships and going on to Win the Junior Division at the Wellington Champion of Champions; Partick Wellbrock, another first-time winner when he shot 79, 79 to win the Sellar Trophy in the Intermediate grade at the age of 16

Plenty of members were out and about at other clubs’ Christmas Cheers at the past weekend. The club competition on Saturday was stableford and first was Derek Bentley with 39 points and that was on countback from Geoff Ewington. Stu Northe was third with 37 points, also on countback. Holes in two were scored by Geoff Ewington and Stu Northe.
On Sunday, the competition was a par round and in group 1 Stu Northe had the round of the day and was 6 up, with Ivan Karaitiana second with 4 up and that was on countback from Darryl Coley, also 4 up. In group 2, Maurice O’Reilly was first on 4 up, with Laurence Butler second on countback, also 4 up. Mike Towgood was third on 3 up. Holes in two were scored by Darryl Coley, Damion Kauika, Greg Granich and Brian Chappell.
