Hold the phone
The Wairarapa Community Centre Trust is moving into the 21st century it says, by getting rid of its landline phone. Wednesday was the last day the landline rang, meaning those wishing to get in touch with the Trust must make contact via Facebook, the website, or by calling the Trust’s mobile number on 027 280 9226. Face-to-face visits are also available at its address at 41 Perry St, Masterton.
Art unveiling
ceremony
South Wairarapa District Council will be holding an unveiling and gifting ceremony to install a new artwork at Waihinga Centre next week. The sculpture was commissioned by the Waihinga Trust and acknowledges the relationship with mana whenua. Artists Sam Ludden and Violet Edwards will be present to explain the story behind the sculpture. The ceremony will take place on Wednesday, December 7 at 8am at the Waihinga Centre in Martinborough.
Roadworks
North and southbound passing lanes remain closed on SH2 between Carterton and Masterton for safety improvement project works. Waka Kotahi NZTA has advised that stop-go traffic control will be in operation on SH2 from tomorrow night through to Thursday from 7pm-5.30am. There will also be stop-go traffic control for the same period near Ngaumutawa Rd for duct installation.
Council IT
upgrades
Masterton District Council is upgrading its IT systems over the weekend. This will mean online council resources including, the online payments functionality, cemetery search. and online maps [Wairarapa Maps] will be unavailable until Monday 8am.
Slap and wrap
Summer Hummer festival goers are reminded to be sun safe this afternoon. Despite a cloudy forecast, Niwa said Masterton’s UV rays were listed as Level 9/dangerous so protection such as sunglasses and hats were advised.
Retailer theft
Police say inquiries are ongoing to locate goods and people involved in a theft from a Masterton retailer yesterday. Police attended the call at 1.40pm but the thieves had already fled the scene.
