Power outage
Residents from Carterton to Tinui reported a power flicker about 9pm on Tuesday. One resident said she saw a blue flash in the sky, and others said that the outage was caused by a car crashing into a power pole in Solway. Powerco said it had no knowledge of the flicker; they only recorded an outage for one Masterton household on Tuesday night. Police said they had received no report of a car crashing into a power pole.
House prices still falling
The average monthly change to Wairarapa house values is in the negative, according to the latest CoreLogic House Price Index released yesterday. The report found that in October, Masterton home values had dropped by -11.4 per cent. The drop was the steepest in the region, followed by South Wairarapa dropping -10.9 per cent and Carterton dropping -4.2 per cent. House prices were still falling nationwide. However, the downturn had eased from -1.5 per cent in September to -1.3 per cent last month. CoreLogic predicted that house prices would continue to drop after further increases to the official cash rate, starting with the next Monetary Policy Statement from the RBNZ on November 23.

Fireworks

Pet owners are being reminded to keep an eye on their little friends during fireworks season. Masterton District Council’s recommendation included walking dogs in daylight hours, keeping pets indoors when fireworks start, making sure pets are in a secure environment, checking stock are secure in paddocks, and getting pets microchipped or putting a registration tag on their collar.
