A notorious intersection on Carterton’s back streets has sent another person to hospital.
Emergency services responded to a two-car crash at the intersection of Moreton and Rutland Roads shortly after 1pm yesterday.
The intersection, controlled by stop signs, is a known black spot in the area.
The t-bone collision yesterday sent one car headlong into the water race beside the road, requiring the Carterton Fire Brigade to remove the driver through the back window.
One man, who was suffering suspected broken bones, was transported to Wairarapa Hospital by ambulance in a moderate condition.
Chief fire officer Bryan Styles said no one was trapped and the occupants of the other car were not seriously injured.
He said traffic management was in place while the ambulance assessed the motorists involved.
Styles said the intersection had seen fatalities over the years, and it was a popular back road for people bypassing State Highway 2 or travelling to Martinborough, which meant motorists were often travelling “at a reasonable speed”.
Three people suffered injuries after a significant crash at the intersection in March, which led to an investigation by the Serious Crash Unit.
One person was transported to Wellington Hospital in a serious condition.
