Stolen car found in Hutt

A car stolen from a Masterton property has been found after a Lower Hutt resident reported suspicious activity to police.
Police said in a social media post that three people were arrested after a 111 call about suspicious activity outside a neighbour’s home.
It said a resident of Taita Drive, in the Lower Hutt suburb of Boulcott, noticed several unfamiliar people at the rear of a neighbouring address shortly before midnight on Thursday.
The resident was certain that the people weren’t the neighbours and called 111 to report it.
“The caller let police know the individuals were still at the address, and that a second unfamiliar vehicle
was just pulling up.”
Hutt Valley Prevention Manager Inspector Haley Ryan said thanks to the resident’s quick call, police were able to able to apprehend three people, and recover a vehicle that had been reported stolen from a Masterton property on October 30.
“Because our caller acted immediately, police have been able to find people at the scene and make arrests.”
Ryan said a 25-year-old man and two women, aged 28 and 23, now each face charges of burglary and unlawfully taking a motor vehicle.
They appeared in the Hutt Valley District Court yesterday [Friday].
Ryan urged the public to call police if they saw anyone or anything suspicious.
“If it’s happening now, call 111 with as much detail as possible, or if it’s something you notice after the fact, get in touch on 105.”
