The council employee wage pool for Wairarapa totalled $19 million last financial year, an increase of $1.45m on the year before.
In South Wairarapa, the council wage pool increased 14 per cent to $5.02m and the number of full-time equivalent [FTE] employees raised by four.
In the year ending June 2021, there were 59 FTE staff working at South Wairarapa District Council [SWDC], compared with 55 FTE in 2020, its latest annual report shows.
Across the board, the average salary for a FTE council employee at SWDC was $85,118 compared with $79,581 in 2020.
Of the total number of staff employed by SWDC [66], about 30 earned less than $60k.
Six staff earned between $120k and $260k.
In Masterton, there were 17 more FTE staff working at the council in the 2021 financial year compared with the year before, bringing the total FTE workforce to 124.
The Masterton District Council [MDC] wage pool increased 5.3 per cent year on year to $9.28m.
On average, MDC staffers earn less than their SWDC counterparts.
In the year ending June 2020, MDC employees earned $82,353 on average.
This average dropped to $73,858 last year.
Of the total number of staff employed by MDC [145], about 55 earned less than $60k per year.
Sixteen members of staff earned between $120k and $260k.
Carterton District Council [CDC] had a decrease in the number of FTEs it employed in the 2021 financial year.
The number of FTEs dropped from 66.3 to 65.6 year on year.
Despite this, the wage pool raised 7.5 per cent to $4,845,093 in the 2021 financial year.
The average CDC staffer earned $73,858 last financial year, a 8.7 per cent increase on the year before.
Of the 66 total employees, 48 earned less than $60,000. Five earned between $100k and $220k. — NZLDR
