Giants made it two from two in the Intercity Premier Three Softball Championship on Saturday with a 10-2 victory over Poneke-Kilbirnie.

The teams were neck and neck going into the final couple of innings at South Park. That’s when the Giants batters found their form and pulled away for a comfortable win. Pitcher Mike McDermott then pinned the opposition back.

Giants are the only unbeaten team after two rounds and head the championship points table.

The Giants Presidents started their campaign with a final inning loss to old foes Hutt Valley Dodgers at Fraser Park, Lower Hutt.

At the top of the sixth inning, Giants finally found some hitting form, scoring four runs, including a home run to Matt Kawana. That wasn’t enough though as Dodgers fought back and brought home six batters to claim early season bragging rights.

The Major B Women drubbed Wellington Army 15-0 in the opening round of the Hutt Valley Major B Championship at South Park.

Pitcher Maggie Shields starred for the Under-15s in their 17-0 thrashing of Hutt Valley Demons, striking out seven of the opposition batters in the three innings rout.
