A Givealittle page has been set up to help the grieving family and whanau after Monday’s tragic fire near Martinborough.

Christine Mann, of Martinborough, has been named as the person who died in the blaze at the property on White Rock Rd in the early hours of the morning.

Family friend Kahu-Tala Matthews set up the fundraising page.

She said Mann had whanau across Wairarapa in Masterton and Featherston.

Funds raised would be used to pay Mann’s funeral expenses with any extra used to help her family.

Fire trucks from across the region including Featherston, Martinborough, and Masterton were called to the blaze at about 1am on Monday morning.

Detective Senior Sergeant Barry Bysouth is in charge of the investigation into the incident for Wairarapa Police.

“There is nothing in the investigation so far around the circumstances of the fire that lead police to believe it to be suspicious,” he said.

“We are working with and being led by our colleagues in Fire and Emergency New Zealand to investigate the cause of the fire.

“I can confirm that fire alarms were fitted and were working at the house.

“This is an important time of year for everyone to check they have fresh batteries and have tested their fire alarms.”
