One Carterton couple haven’t let the cancellation of the iconic Daffodil Day Festival stop their annual clean-up of the town’s shopfronts.
For the past five years, Sean and Anne Mulcahy have helped organise a team of volunteers to give Carterton shopfronts a spring clean in preparation for the floral festival which was cancelled after Friday’s Government announcement that kept Wairarapa at Alert Level 2 until September 16, at the least.
Despite this, Sean remained keen to organise a group of volunteers to help.
“It is unfortunate that Daffodil Day has been cancelled,” he said. “However, the thrust of our yearly task is to assist our retailers and 2020 is more special than ever.
“They have had to survive through lockdown and still be there for us. “
He said, having been through the covid-19 alert level lockdown, people had realised how much they appreciated retailers and shopkeepers.
“They are one of the many pivotal parts that makes Carterton buzz.
“We want to show them that they matter to us and help them sparkle and hopefully show their best to our community.”
The spring clean event usually takes a couple of hours and involves BYO [bring your own] buckets, sponges and cloths.
He asked that volunteers meet at the Tractor, Lawnmower and Chainsaw Services building on September 12 at 2pm.
