Police: Driver headed south
Police are seeking the driver of a Ford Ranger ute after it ran a stop sign and crashed into another ute in Martinborough on Saturday night, then left the scene.
The offending vehicle, described as a dark coloured, new model, drove through the stop sign at the junction of Princess and Kitchener streets at about 9pm, heading north at about 70kmh in a 50kmh zone.
It collided with a Mitsubishi ute being driven along Kitchener St, hitting the back of the car, causing considerable damage and spinning it off the road.
The Ford Ranger ute drove off without stopping, continuing along Ponatahi Rd towards Carterton.
Police said the Ford Ranger would have significant front-end damage, as the left front guard was found a distance from the scene, along with a trail of fluids leaking from the engine.
The fluids led towards Carterton, but the vehicle was not found.

With our weak judicial system now days all the culprit will get is a slap on the wrist with a wet bus ticket
You would have to wonder what the driver was thinking. There is no way he/she will get away with this act of stupidity. Hit and run, possibility of an injury to the other driver. Failing to stop to ascertain injuries etc etc. Hopefully the law will come down hard on the driver.
Too many drivers driving off after a hit and run. Better to face punishment at the time than to face more convictions.
