Two men have appeared in court on drugs, firearm, and fraud charges after a search of four houses in Featherston and Martinborough on Thursday.
The operation involved about 20 uniformed and CIB staff from Wairarapa and took much of the day to complete, Detective Sergeant Bill van Woerkom said.
Three houses were searched in Featherston and one in Martinborough. A variety of stolen goods were recovered, along with methamphetamine, a firearm, and documents relating to alleged fraud.
A 31-year-old Martinborough man was charged with receiving stolen goods, fraud, unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, and other drug-related offences, including possession of
methamphetamine for supply.
He appeared in Hutt Valley District Court and was remanded in custody to appear again this week.
A 39-year-old Featherston man was charged with receiving stolen goods, multiple instances of fraud, burglary, theft, and driving charges.
He appeared in Wellington District Court.
Van Woerkom said the operation was the result of a combination of investigative work and information provided by the community.
“Drug use is often a driver for other dishonesty offences,” he said. “It results in a lot of crime. These are active offenders in the community.”
He said the operation had taken time.
“We started before daylight. It was a long day for the team.”
Van Woerkom said the success of the operation showed the value of community information.
“If anyone in the community has concerns about criminal activity, they should contact their local police, or they can call anonymously on Crimestopppers.”

Well done put the scumbags in prison for life that is where people who hurt others should be.
When are you people going to wake up if you want to fry your brain your choice.
Leave innocent people alone
