Rathkeale continue to impress in Wellington Division One with a 6-4 win over St Patrick’s Town.
Zander Edwards continued his good form in front of goal, bagging a hat-trick. Other goals were scored by Jonty Roubos, Oscar James, and Josh Rudland.
Rathkeale are unbeaten and second-equal on the points table, two behind Hutt International Boys. They play Wellington College at home on Saturday.
A slow start cost Wairarapa College in their clash with HIBS. Down 4-0 after 30 minutes, Waicol put in an improved second half defensive performance, eventually going down 5-0.
They have their best chance to pick up their first points on Saturday when they take on St Patrick’s Silverstream who have had just the one draw and sit just above Waicol in the standings.
HOCKEY
Rathkeale suffered a shock loss in the latest round in Wellington Premier One.
Having won the grading round competition, Rathkeale had started the championship with three wins, but they came unstuck on Monday, losing 1-2 to an improving Tawa College.
Wairarapa College beat bottom-of-the-table Scots College 6-1 with the bonus point moving them to second-equal place with Paraparaumu College and four points behind Wellington College.

The competitions now take a break, with the next round to be played on July 26.
NETBALL
Wairarapa College have had two close losses to start the Wellington regional Division Two competition.
A 29-30 loss to Aotea College last week was followed by a 29-33 loss to Chilton St James on Monday night.
St Matthew’s have had a win and a loss to kick off their Division Three campaign.
They lost 24-28 to Upper Hutt College last week and beat Wainuiomata College 34-33 on Monday night.
The eight-team leagues will now take a break for the school holidays, with the next game scheduled for July 22.
RUGBY
Wairarapa College’s prospects of making the semifinals in the Wellington First XV Premier Championship took a hit with a 19-31 loss to St Patrick’s Town.
The result leaves Waicol in seventh place on 12 points, 13 shy of the top four with three games to play.
Their next outing is against traditional powerhouse Wellington College, followed by winnable games against Kapiti College and Aotea College.
Rathkeale College have slumped to bottom of the table in the Central North Island First XV championship.
The 7-25 loss to St John’s Hamilton was their sixth straight defeat of the championship.
Rathkeale will play fifth-placed Feilding High School at home on Saturday.
