Miro Street in Lansdowne is about to get an extension as a new part of the Cashmere Oaks subdivision gets under way in December.

Masterton developer Roger Southey hit the market with the first six lots of the subdivision back in 2011.

The Southey family has owned the property, situated on State Highway 2 north of Masterton and bounded by Miro Street, Somerset Drive, the main trunk railway line and State Highway 2, for more than 30 years and a gradual development of the site’s entire 40ha has been happening.

As with most subdivisions the roads, infrastructure and services ultimately get vested back to the ratepayer.

Southey said the part of the project known as the Miro Street extension would be available for sale shortly.

“Yes, it is set to go, and starts on December 3,” he said.

That’s when Higgins will begin work on the road to extend the end of Miro Street into farmland.

There are 11 lots in the extension and Southey is not releasing the pricing yet.

Pru Hamill from Harcourts is handling the marketing.

“It’s all set to go,” Southey said.

The extension of Miro Street will be into a cul-de-sac with a roundabout, he said.

He said the development would raise the property values of the existing houses in the street.

“It has been coming for some years,” he said. “It is just we haven’t got on to it.”

At the time the first part of the development went ahead he said Wairarapa had a sound future for expansion. The land where Cashmere Oaks is has previously been used for lamb fattening and cropping business.

Roads in the first phase of the subdivision were all named in honour of his family.

McDonald Way came from his paternal grandmother’s maiden name, carried down through subsequent generations as a male Christian name.

Roger Renall Avenue was named after Southey’s maternal, great-great-grandfather and Cashmere Oaks Drive was named after Cashmere Downs, the original farm in the area owned by Southey’s grandfather, Alexander.

Some Miro Street residents know about the extension getting under way but they were not formally notified.

  1. When stage four which has just been completed was being developed a sign went up to say stage two and three were done and sold out. It was a blatant lie. Stage two and three had not been done at all. This is part of them.this explains the sudden ruse in properties on the market in Miro street
