The favourites continued on their merry way in the weekend’s round of Netball Wairarapa’s premier one matches.

Last year’s finalists – Celtic and Harcourts – were expected to be too strong for their secondary school opposition on Friday night, and so it proved as they both cantered to comfortable wins.

Celtic were too strong for St Matthew’s Collegiate in a 56-31 win, while Harcourts overpowered Wairarapa College 66-40.

Saturday’s match between Carterton and Gladstone was expected to be a more evenly-fought match, but Carterton eventually pulled away for a 51-35 win.

The results mean that after two rounds of matches in the second round, Harcourts and Carterton are tied at the top of the table on six points, with a slightly superior goal difference putting Harcourts in first spot.

Celtic are third with five points after a win and a draw, with Gladstone fourth with two points.

Waicol and St Matthew’s are yet to get on the board, and will be targeting their match against each other on August 18 as their best chance to make their mark.

This week’s matches have Gladstone and St Matthew’s kicking the round off at Chanel College on Friday night [6pm], followed by a top-of-the-table clash between Harcourts and Carterton at the same venue [7.30pm].
