Jake Beleski has taken over from Gary Caffell as sports editor of the Times-Age.
Beleski has been working as a general reporter and sports reporter at the Times-Age for the past 18 months.
Originally from Nelson, he studied a bachelor of sport and recreation at Lincoln University, before moving to England for two years.
It was during his time in England that he found a passion for sports reporting, after being asked to write match reports for his rugby club while out with an injury.
He returned to New Zealand in 2015, and then went to Massey University in Wellington to complete a postgraduate diploma in journalism in 2016.
From there, it was straight to work for the Times-Age.
Beleski has experience playing different sports including rugby, cricket, tennis and basketball, and is passionate about all sports and their importance to the local community.
Caffell’s experience and knowledge is irreplaceable, but Beleski will be working hard to try and make the transition as seamless as possible.
