DRAPER,
Phyllida Fairbairn (née Smith).
Daughter of Arthur and Amy Smith of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Mother of Jolyon, deceased, and Wyndham (Diana) of Cincinnati, Ohio, and grandmother of Marie and Sarah Draper, died at Masterton on November 28, 2017, aged 88. She was married to Johan Draper, deceased, and later to Gerard Klück.
Phyllida and her son, Wyndham, immigrated to New Zealand in 1971 before which she worked in English Production at the National Film Board of Canada in Montreal. On arrival in New Zealand she worked in Wellington for ten years for the Managing Editor of the New Zealand Press Association, and then for another ten years in the Vice-Chancellor’s office at Victoria University. When she moved to Masterton she worked for Rathkeale College, again for ten years, and in between all of that was Agony Aunt for the then Auckland Star.
She was a member of the Ranfurly Club and the Masterton Table Tennis Club. The family would like to extend their thanks to all at Lansdowne Park Care Centre for their kindness and sensitivity.
A memorial service will be held at The Village Chapel 4 – 6 High Street, Kuripuni, Masterton on Saturday, December 2nd at 3 PM. Her ashes will be buried in the family Fairbairn-Smith plot at Little Lake Cemetery in Peterborough, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Wairarapa SPCA in Masterton, would be much appreciated.
