Shed fire
Fire crews from Masterton Fire Station responded with two trucks to a shed fire on Ōpaki Rd in Masterton yesterday at 11am. Masterton station officer Justin Long said a multi-plug that was overloaded with multiple appliances caught fire inside the shed. “The homeowner reported it, and we did speak to him when we were there,” Long said. “We were there for two hours, but it only took 15 minutes to put the fire out, and we used the town’s water main. There was no risk to any other people or properties.” The official advice from Fire and Emergency New Zealand is to have only one small heat-generating device, such as a hairdryer and toaster, plugged into a multi-plug; heaters should be plugged straight into the wall.
Second shed fire
Martinborough, Lake Ferry, and Carterton fire stations responded to a woodshed that appeared to spontaneously combust at about 8pm on Tuesday in Pirinoa, north of Lake Ferry. A Martinborough station spokesperson confirmed the fire was extinguished.
Police callouts
Police responded to reports of an attempted break-in at a residential property on Michael St in Masterton at 11pm on Tuesday; police checked all around the property but did not locate anyone. Police also responded to reports of a car parked across someone’s driveway on South Belt in Masterton at 9.45pm on Tuesday; police said the owner was arranging for the car to be moved.

Market
On Saturday, June 22, from 10.30am to 3.30pm, the Mid-Winter Market in the Country will be open at Carterton’s A&P Showgrounds, with over 40 artisan stalls under cover and a range of food trucks. Enter by Gate 2. Admission is free.
Business event
A business event being held next Tuesday, June 25, in Dannevirke is still taking registrations.
