Road revamp
Changes are being made to the work plan and schedule for the SH2 Chapel St rehabilitation project in Masterton after site investigations found a section of road near the Lincoln Rd roundabout will need a full road closure to be fixed. As a result, a full road closure will take place from Chapel St between the Lincoln Rd and Renall St roundabouts from tomorrow [Sunday] until Thursday, from 9pm to 5am. The Chapel St northbound lane will also be closed to traffic on Monday from 5am to 9pm to allow for further work on this section of the road.
Late start
On Monday, Carterton District Council’s office at 28 Holloway St will be opening at 10am – an hour later than usual – due to a staff meeting. Anyone who urgently needs to contact the council before that should call 06 379 4030.
Doggy day
There’s a fundraiser at Masterton’s Queen Elizabeth Park on Sunday at 10am for the Life Flight rescue service. There’ll be activities and food available, and attendees are encouraged to dress their dog up for the occasion. Entry is $10 per dog [cash only].
Car crash
A man has been charged with driving while on a suspended licence and careless driving after crashing his Subaru Legacy into a ditch on Matarawa Rd in Carterton at 8.30pm on Thursday night. He will appear in Masterton District Court on Tuesday.
Burnouts
Wairarapa Police responded to reports of a car doing a burnout in Fox St in Featherston at 12.45pm yesterday. A police spokesperson said the incident was a one-off event unrelated to the region’s ‘boy racer’ problem.
