Boot sale
Ā Mua Community Resource Centre is celebrating its third birthday with a reverse car boot sale this Saturday from 10am to 2pm at 69 Boundary Rd in Featherston. Customers can fill their car boot, ute, bicycle trailer, or bag with as many items priced under $20 as they want and pay just $10 [items priced at $20 or over will be sold individually at the marked price].
Medical meeting
Carterton Medical Centre is hosting an event to receive public input and to provide understanding about recent staffing constraints. Given the challenging situation, the centre is holding the community meeting on Wednesday, May 8 at 6 pm at the Carterton Events Centre [50 Holloway St, Carterton] to discuss an action plan on how high-quality healthcare services for patients and families can be maintained.
Power outage
There is a planned power outage for the Holdsworth Lodge in Tararua Forest Park on Sunday, May 5 from 9:30am to 4pm.
Food parcels
New World is inviting customers to fill a bag with foodbank-friendly products or donate a $20 pre-filled Family2Family bag that is available in-store. The supermarket passes on the donated goods to local food banks to support families in need. Customers can drop donations off at the collection point in the Masterton or Carterton stores [New World will drop off any goods that are bought online]. The initiative finishes this Sunday [May 5].
Cakery opening
Sweet Cheeks Cakery’s official grand opening of its new venue at Coronation Hall in Masterton’s Queen Elizabeth Park is being held from 9am to 3pm on Sunday. Because it is primarily a bakery, customers’ goodies will be packaged in takeaway packaging unless crockery is requested. All customers in the first two weeks of the business’ opening who provide details at the counter are in to win a $100 voucher.
Open season
The first weekend of May marks the start of the duck hunting season for grey and mallards in Wairarapa. The hunting window for waterfowl is open for 58 days until Sunday, June 30, with a 12-bird limit per day.
