MDC Town
Hall meeting

Masterton District Council [MDC] will host a public meeting to outline further options for the Masterton Town Hall building, library, and archive tomorrow. The options presented will be among the four ‘big decisions’ in Masterton District Council’s Long-Term Plan consultation document. The public can attend in person or watch the live-stream on the MDC YouTube channel, where it will be uploaded afterwards. All relevant information will be found on the MDC website, with hard copies of consultation documents available at the Council’s Customer Service Centre at 161 Queen St and Masterton District Library [54 Queen Street]. The 1.5-hour town hall meeting will run from 5:30pm to 7pm on April 24 at Waiata House, 27 Lincoln Road, Masterton. The public is advised to email [email protected] to indicate attendance.

Letterbox thefts

Police are following up after a number of letterboxes were stolen from properties on Lees Pakaraka Rd just east of Masterton. A police spokesperson said the case is being dealt with by the Community Rural Team.

Masterton fire

A crew from Masterton Fire Station responded to a small burn-off fire in Masterton at about 10.45pm on Saturday. Station officer Richard King said although the person who lit the fire did have a permit, the fire crew did need to touch base with them. King also wanted to remind people that just because Wairarapa has now moved back to a restricted fire season, this is no excuse for complacency.

Caffell raffle

A fundraising raffle for Wellington Free Ambulance is currently underway in which the winning prize is a free lunch at Dish Cafe with Masterton Mayor Gary Caffell, who is only too happy to participate, although he has wryly noted that “My wife would never pay to go out with me!” Happily, the 200 raffle tickets available are only $5 each and can be purchased at Dish Café [10 First St, Lansdowne].

Kids activities

South Wairarapa District Council [SWDC] has school holiday activities available for kids at the districts’ libraries until April 26. For more information, visit the SWDC Facebook page.
