INDOOR BOWLS

It has been a busy start to the local indoor bowls season, with Central Wairarapa holding the New Zealand mixed pairs and mixed fours elimination series at their Hogg Crescent complex over the weekend.

Four combinations qualified for the playoffs from the 12 teams entered, with Elva and Kelly Simonsen beating Marilyn and Mike King in a closely fought semifinal to progress to the final against Donald Leighton and Tina Patrick, who had beaten Sarndra and Petter Bain. The final went to the wire, with Leighton and Patrick holding on for a 9–8 victory.

Only five teams lined up for Sunday’s mixed fours, with two teams qualifying for the final. The four of George Baker, Alex Butler, Dale Lloyd-Stanton and Sandra Henderson prevailed 11–8 over the combo of Logan Mikoz, Neville Mikoz, Juile Mikz, and Amber Andrews and booked their place in the zone finals in Manawatu in July.

The masters’ fours and the Henselite singles eliminations will be played this weekend, and the winners will represent Wairarapa in the zone finals.
