Hill closure

Remutaka Hill Rd is scheduled to close in both directions between 9pm and 4am until Friday, March 22. NZTA advises people to plan their journeys to avoid travel disruptions during these closures. Access over the hill during the scheduled times requires a booking. People can go to www.nzta.govt.nz/remutaka before the closures to apply for a booking.

Recycling plan

Masterton District Council is reminding people about the standardisation of kerbside recycling. Since February 1 this year, what people can put into their household recycling bins is the same across most of the country. Standardised kerbside recycling is expected to divert an extra 36,000 tonnes of recycling from the landfill every year – estimated at almost 30kg per household. It is also expected to generate more value from recyclable materials. More information about recycling in the Masterton district is at: https://www.mstn.govt.nz/roads-water-and-rubbish/rubbish-recycling-and-waste/recycling

Grants deadline

South Wairarapa community and youth grant applications close on Wednesday, March 27. Community organisations, marae committees, groups or individuals with a common purpose that benefits the South Wairarapa are eligible to apply. South Wairarapa District Council supports initiatives that deliver value to the district and its communities. More eligibility information and how to apply is at swdc.govt.nz/community/grants/

Late openings

The Featherston Library and Martinborough Council office will be opening at the later time of 11am tomorrow [Thursday, March 21] due to an all-staff meeting. Normal hours resume on Friday.

Line closed

Hughes Line in Carterton is closed until March 22 for work on culvert extensions. The work started on Monday and continues each day this week between 6.30am and 5.30pm. Access will be permitted to Hughes Line residents only while the work takes place. Emergency access will be available if needed. Because work will start on the northern culvert first, all residents must use the southern entrance of Hughes Line. On completion of the first culvert, the site foreman will liaise with residents about which entrance to use. Work is weather permitting.
