Wairarapa’s very own CC’s House will be hitting the stage today as the rejuvenated Trust House Summer Hummer kicks off at Queen Elizabeth Park.
CC’s House is a self-described funk, soul, and reggae fusion band, and bassist Morgan Austin said they are excited to join such an iconic festival.
“We’re just so excited that it’s back up and running, and we really, really hope it is a huge success and that Masterton can get in behind the gig so we can have more events like this happen,” Austin said.
Summer Hummer started in 1997 and ran for 13 years.
This year’s festival is sponsored by Trust House [with naming rights] and Elevate Community Trust.
Austin said that while CC’s House are “super excited” about the gig, there is also a bit of nervousness starting to creep in.
“There’s a little bit of nerves there to make sure that we’re super, super tight,” he said.
Summer Hummer features headline act Drax Project, CC’s House, LA Women, Rampage, Lo Tide, What’s The Name, and Wairarapa’s Got Talent winner Nari Kerehi.
“We’re really excited to have the younger bands playing there,” Austin said.
“For [musicians], that’s where it is, if you don’t have the youth involved, we’ve got no future.”
CC’s House have been working hard on putting together a great show for the Wairarapa communities coming to Summer Hummer, and have worked to “put together a special set” that will comprise mostly originals with some covers mashed in.
Austin said they’re hoping the day is a raging success and that “everyone shows up and has a great time”.
The band work collaboratively on their original content, and Austin said they’re looking to record some of their self-penned songs in the near future.
“Watch this space,” Austin said.
CC’s House comprises Courtney Naera on keys and vocals, Peter Pauli on guitar and vocals, Morgan Austin on bass, and Jason Ireland on drums.
The event opens to audience members at 1.30pm today, with the music starting at 2pm and going until 7.30pm. Entry costs a gold coin koha at the gates, although you can also secure your ticket online through Eventfinda.
