Hinekura update

Work on the remediation of Hinekura Rd in rural Martinborough is “well underway”, according to a South Wairarapa District Council update. With a budget of $785,363, works completed so far include rough alignment, environmental measures, tree felling, and bulk earthworks. It’s anticipated this phase of works will be completed in March and the final alignment will support heavy traffic and match adjacent sections of Hinekura Rd. The road was closed following a significant slip in 2022 and remedial works are being done by Brownell Earthmoving Limited and their contracting partners under the guidance of Ruamahanga Roads.

Water usage

A spokesperson for South Wairarapa District Council said there are large spikes in overnight water usage across Martinborough. As the area is still at level two water restrictions, the spokesperson noted these spikes are resulting in decreasing water reservoir levels that are not recovering. The spokesperson said that as SWDC cannot pinpoint where this usage is coming from, residents and commercial businesses are asked to exercise restraint and continue to comply with water restrictions as “level three restrictions inch closer”.

March for Parks

To celebrate Parks Week – running from March 2-10 – Carterton District Council [CDC] is running a scavenger hunt competition to encourage the use of Carterton’s public parks. This involves recording the Parks Week ‘word’ located in Carrington Park, Howard Booth, Bird’s Park, Sparks Park, and South End Park. Further instructions on how to enter the competition once all words are identified are available through CDC’s website. Prizes include one of five outdoor games. A spokesperson for CDC said that Parks Week 2024 is running nationwide to acknowledge the vital role of liveable spaces.

Stalls available

The Dalefield Country Fair is on Saturday March 23. A spokesperson for the event said that while powered sites are fully booked, there is still availability for stalls for anyone interested. Stalls are $25 plus a donation towards a new playground for Dalefield School, as the old playground was demolished when a new car park was built. Those interested in booking a stall for the fair can email [email protected].
