Pool reopens
The Eketāhuna swimming pool is now up and running again. The pool was closed last week after a break-in on January 22 and poor weather meant it couldn’t open until Monday. The facility will be open from 3pm to 6pm during school terms. Tararua District Council reminds patrons that children under eight must be actively supervised and children under five must be an arm’s reach away from a parent or caregiver at all times. Planned outage
Powerco has a planned outage for Greytown tomorrow, which will affect the power supply to 254 houses. The outage will take place between 8.30am and 3pm, and is in order to install a new transformer. Properties on Horton, McMaster, Jellicoe, Reading, Massey, and Mahupuku streets and Clara Anne Grove may be affected.
Public parkers
A bylaw refresh could put a stop to business vehicles being stored in public parking spaces. The idea has been floated in a report to Masterton District Council’s Infrastructure and Services Committee. The report said some Masterton car dealerships and vehicle repair businesses had been using public parking spaces to park their excess vehicles. “Some of the vehicles do not have current registration or warrant of fitness [WOF] when parked in the public spaces and can be parked in the spaces for extended periods,” the report said. “Currently, officers do not issue infringements for no registration or no WOF, however, it would be a useful tool to ensure that vehicles that are parked on a public road are done so legally.” The Wairarapa Consolidated Bylaws are due to be reviewed in the 2024/25 year and staff have noted it may be useful to include a prohibition on vehicles being stored on the road in connection to businesses.
Flower power
In an unexpected twist, the Cancer Society is replacing its iconic daffodils with sunflowers for a limited time to raise funds for the charity. You can buy sunflowers for $2 each from the Property Brokers offices in Masterton today and tomorrow, or from its Greytown office today. The Cancer Society office opposite the hospital will also be selling them between 10am and 2pm today and tomorrow.
