Drug testing
The New Zealand Drug Foundation is running another free, legal, and confidential drug testing pop-up clinic in Masterton this weekend. The pop-up will be at the Whaiora Medical Centre on January 19 from 3pm to 7pm. The service focuses on harm reduction by testing drugs and providing results to people who attend the clinic, and a disposal service is also offered if you no longer want to keep the drugs you have had tested. The service is entirely legal under amendments to the Misuse of Drugs Act 1975, Psychoactive Substances Act 2013, the Medicines Act 1981, and relevant regulations under those Acts. The Whaiora Medical Centre is located at 394 Queen St, Masterton.
Planned power outages today
Powerco are planning to temporarily cut power in some Masterton streets today. The planned outage is set to affect parts of Beaumont Rd, Kaiwhata Rd and Homewood Rd. This outage is expected to last six hours and 45 minutes, from 8.30am to 3.15pm. Powerco has all planned outages listed on their website, where you can search by suburb and property address to see if you are affected.
Bluebottles

Keep an eye out for bluebottles if you are swimming at Riversdale Beach. The jellyfish have been spotted at other beaches nationwide and have a nasty sting. Riversdale Surf Lifesaving Club Captain Mike Taylor said that anyone attending events at Riversdale Beach this weekend should be aware and urged beachgoers to stay safe. Surf lifesavers will be present over the weekend to help if you need medical attention. For emergencies, contact 111.
Whānau day
is coming up
Masterton District Council is planning a new event called Whānau Day on Saturday, February 3. The event includes access to the Trust House Recreation Centre pools, activities at Queen Elizabeth Park and a basketball and skateboard competition. Events will be on between 11am and 2pm; the whole event is free. The event is led by MDC’s community development team, Rangitāne o Wairarapa and Ngāti Kahungunu ki Wairarapa.
