Carterton gold

award finalists

Two Carterton businesses are finalists for the Wellington Gold Awards. The awards celebrate excellence in Greater Wellington and Horowhenua. Milky-Way Kiwi and Juken NZ are the local finalists. Samuel Leske and Haritana Mogosanu founded Milky-Way.Kiwi. Through their Star Safari, they have now showcased the universe to more than 4,000 stargazers in Wairarapa. Through ‘Spaceward Bound’ they have introduced the stars and sky to 25,000 students in 125 schools. The second finalists are Kristy Hansen and Karl Burling of Juken NZ, an integrated timber company working from seedlings to finished products. JNL recognised a need and opportunity to match its employment requirements by collaborating with local organisations such as Youth 2 Work, the Mayoral Taskforce for Jobs, MSD and the Gateway Program. This has led to staffing initiatives such as flexible working arrangements, part-time shifts supporting solo parents, school holiday initiatives, and a youth employment scheme.

Carterton Xmas

lights to shine

Carterton District Council [CDC] is helping spread seasonal cheer by listing homes whose owners want to share their festive lights. The CDC elves have offered to share the addresses via a message on their Facebook page. “Elfy wants to make sure everyone in Carterton experiences the joy of Christmas lights, so if you’re in Carterton and want your address listed as a must-see Christmas house, pop your address into the comments below,” the elves wrote. Once the Elfin team have some addresses, they’ll be putting a link up on the council website for locals to check.
