Carterton
Wednesday Twilight. About 30 players enjoyed a sunny evening’s play for Wednesday Twilight. The winner on the night was David Ross, getting 26 stablefords over the 11 holes of golf. Les Cherry also had 26 points. Jamie Morris was next with 25, Hugo Tomlin had 24 and James O’Connor and Barry Orme had 23 stableford points.
Nearest the Pins were won by Les Cherry and Geoff Bascand. James O’Connor won the Net Birdie competition. Simon Johnstone won the Admirals Challenge Longest Putt.
There was a good turnout for Friday elevenses but no results were to hand at the time of print. Don’t forget this 11-hole competition teeing off at 12 noon every Friday. All welcome.
Saturday dawned fine and sunny, and by the time club day teed off at 12.30pm it was quite warm.
Ross Collings won the Keenan Forestry Best Gross competition, turning in a round of 75. The Ladies played a stableford round, with Sharrie Gibbens playing well and getting 38 stableford points to win on the day.
A field of 26 men competed in the Men’s Net Haggle and Peter Woodcock beat the lot with a net 69. Mike Newport was next with a net 70, followed by Lance Sayer with a net 71, then Nic Craig and James O’Connor with net 72. Six players managed a net 73, with Mathew Williams beating the others on a countback to gain 6th spot for the day.
Nearest the Pins were won by Murray Smith, Nick McDonald and Tipi Rimene.
Only 3 players managed to get a two. Peter Woodcock, Bill McLinden and Ross Collings were the lucky punters.
The members’ draw was not struck [remember you have to be in the clubhouse to win] so it jackpots to 9 vouchers this Saturday.
On Sunday, we had a large group from over the hill tackling our greens and fairways. They enjoyed a cooked breakfast before play and indulged in some of our caterer’s famous pies when they came in.
Their competition was a stableford round, and beating the field was Cameron Spencer from Shandon with 37 stablefords, a clear winner ahead of Charles Purcell from the Miramar Club, who managed 33 stablefords.

A glorious day welcomed 26 club players last Saturday for a Stableford Round.

Martinborough
It was a rather blustery day out on the fairways so, not too many Grumpies were willing to venture out.
Results from last week: Grumpies played a par round with Mr President, Lachie McLeod, winning on +5, Andrew McKenzie +5 and Sandy Bidwill +4. Twos went to Andy Morison and Jason Shaw.
On Wednesday, the ladies played their 36-hole Strokeplay Championship, with Sandra Petersen taking out the gross prize with 175, 2nd was Lisa Marie Ireland with 176. The Nett Prize went to Ju Allen with 142, from Julie Weber on 143. Twos went to Sandra Petersen and Karen Shaw.
The previous Wednesday, the 9-holers had their shoot-out final. The winner was Debbie Coom,
2nd Jenny Joblin, 3rd Sherryl Howie, 4th Jane Fanselow-Price, 5th Lizzy Thomson, 6th Tania Williamson, 7th Jenny Tosswill, 8th Tingay Davidson, 9th Billie Holmes and 10th Jo Guscott.
There was a good turnout for Thursday club day with Jason Shaw leading the way with 41 points, Garth Hurrell 40, Ed Elworthy 39 and Vern Anton, Paul Riddiford, Tony Taylor, Bob Lindberg, Mariana McDermott, Seamus O’Sullivan, Malcolm Bridge and Andrew Sim all on 38 points. Nearest the pin was Rob Smith and twos went to Jason Shaw [2], Bob Lindberg and Vern Anton.
On Saturday, we hosted the 36-hole Mixed Foursomes. Best Gross went to Ju Allen & Jason Shaw [165], 2nd Alan & Mary Isaac [173], 3rd Anna Possenniskie & Martin Napier [174] and 4th Honor & Doug Clark. Best Nett went to Andrew & Marion McKenzie [136], 2nd Dayle & Marie Scrimshaw [144], 3rd Julie Weber & Brent McKinlay [145] and 4th Lyle & Ro Griffiths [150]. Best Stableford Kelly Taylor & Trevor Petersen [76], 2nd Mariana McDermott & Seamus O’Sullivan [72], 3rd Stephen Watts & Emily Loughnan [70] and 4th Alec & Julie Dondertman [66].
Sunday was Medal/Putting and the last qualifying round for Shoot Out. 1st was Guy Walmsley, 67, Ed Brown, 71 and Dayle Harwood, 71. Twos went to Brian Russo, Chris Brooks and Jason Shaw. Putting went to Dayle Harwood with 28 putts.
Coming up this week, the ladies have their Closing Day, annual general meeting and prizegiving, and the weekend competitions is a stableford.
Mahunga
The Eagles Halberg fundraiser was held on Saturday, with over $2,400 being raised for disability sport.
The club competition was a stableford round and in group 1, Darryl Coley was first with 38 points and that was on countback from Ray Cocks also on 38. Regan Bentley was third with 37 points, and Chris Wenden was fourth with 36 points. In group 2, Terry Adamson was first with 47 points, and Tania Anderson was second with 39 points. Mike Towgood was third with 36 points and that was on countback from Mark Logan, who was fourth with 36 points. In group 3, Graham Duckett was first with 40 points, with Liz Benseman second with 37 points, Janice Duffy was third with 35 points and Steve Blundsen with 34 points. Holes in two were scored by Rod Dravitzki and Mark Logan, both on number 6. Nearest the pins went to Mike Towgood, Matt Paku, Regan Bentley, Damion Kauika, Anita Karaitiana, Meki Lauvi and Jeremy Harp.
Sunday’s competition was a stableford off the yellow tees, which many found no easier than the white tees, with the trees all getting closer than normal. In group 1, first was Shane Stewart with 34 points, with Terry Adamson second on countback with 33 points, and that was from Greg Granich and Anita Karaitiana. In group 2, Mike Towgood was first with 37 points and that was on countback from Denis Hutchby. Steve Blundsen was third with 36 points.
This Saturday, the course is closed until 1pm for the final of the Shoot Out. On Sunday, the Club competition is a par round.

Tuesday, November 14:
A field of 19 women teed off on a beautiful day to play the final of their Ricoh Shootout for 2023. Anne Smith was victorious, with Larraine Duckett second.
Monday Vets – Carroll’s Joinery Shootout Final
10 Vets set off on the elimination round of this year’s Shootout competition and the two finalists to reach the final hole were Tony Roseingrave and Laurie Williams. They tied the last hole and needed a chip-off to separate them, which Tony won by a narrow margin. An enthusiastic group of spectators doused Tony in cold water before his victory pic was taken.

Results 2023
Congratulations to the winners and to everyone who played and came up and supported the players throughout the day. In the 36 hole matches we had two first-time winners with John Ryan prevailing over Jock Cameron in the Intermediates. An epic match which was close all the way with John holing a 15-foot birdie putt on the 36th to get a much-deserved victory. Hamish Finlayson also won his first title, beating Ray Verhaart in the Juniors. Another close battle, with Hamish winning 2/1 and continuing his rapid improvement.
Sam Forrester won his 7th Senior Club champ title and completed the Wairarapa Open, Club Strokeplay and Matchplay treble for the year. Sam got off to a hot start and was 10 under through the 23 holes he and Dean played. In the Masters Kevin Mackay defeated last year’s winner Ash Peterson in another fiercely contested match which went down the 18th.

9-Hole Ladies – Shootout Final. 14 golfers teed off in very cool weather conditions in the final of the Shootout Competition. Ruth Wiley was the overall winner, with Alex Tomlinson 2nd and Sue Williams 3rd.
