This weekend is chock full of racing, with the Targa road race event coming to Wairarapa today and the Tui Brewery Mangatainoka Motors series hosting the ‘Two Wheels’ day tomorrow.
There will be road closures around Wairarapa this afternoon to allow for some of the final legs of the Targa racing to be completed before they congregate at the Copthorne in Solway, Masterton, from 3pm. You can view the cars there at lunchtime and there are four crews from the Wairarapa Vintage Car Club taking part in the two-day time trial.
Tomorrow, the two-wheeled event at Tui Brewery is set to be jam-packed. It is the second-to-last event in the 2023 series and just like in other months, there will be plenty for the whole family to enjoy.
It’s free entry for spectators and the two-wheel event welcomes Harley’s, Chopper’s, and even Vespa’s to go and participate.
A&P Show
Wairarapa’s A&P Show is back again at the Clareville Showgrounds in Carterton. The annual event will be running today and tomorrow from 9am-4pm and will feature event-classic livestock competitions, equestrian events, and even wood chopping.
There will also be a ghost train running, in keeping with the Halloween theme just around the corner, which will help get people into the spooky spirit. However, if these particular activities are not your style, there’s plenty to be enjoyed for every member of the family, with options such as a scavenger hunt, classic carnival rides, candy floss and lots of food to sample.

Wairarapa Film Festival
The Wairarapa Film Festival Spring Programme is running today in Martinborough.
The spring programme presents a collection of short films – all with connections to Wairarapa. The lineup of films has been curated around strong female characters “who are discovering their sense of self, as well as their place in the world.”
Alongside viewing the films, you’ll also get the opportunity to meet the filmmakers, with a mix of directors, writers, and actors on hand to help introduce their respective films and again after the screening.
Four films will be running:
A Girl Called Elvis, directed by Lindsay Christopherson, tells the story of two sisters growing closer through a family quest.
The Polycees, directed by Celia Jaspers, is a fun family film that follows a young girl uncovering a secret shadow government.
Follow The Light, directed by Cameron Madams, follows Lena on a fantastical journey to uncover the secrets of a mysterious pounamu.
The Reapers, directed by Derrick Sims, tells the story of Death’s granddaughter and her lack of desire to carry on the family business.
