Truck drives into a ditch

Bidwills Cutting Rd had temporary traffic lights set up and oncoming traffic waiting patiently while a truck was hauled out of the ditch it had driven into late yesterday afternoon.

Police said they received a report of the single-vehicle crash at about 1.45pm. It appeared that a truck had veered off the road and into a water race.

Police confirmed that a heavy haulage company had been arranged to remove the vehicle from the side of the road. Though police said the driver was not injured, Wellington Free Ambulance confirmed they attended the scene and treated one patient in mild condition on site.

Fire and Emergency also confirmed they attended the scene near Morrison Bush, with crew responding from Greytown and Featherston. A spokesperson for Fire and Emergency said it was a Hammond transport truck, which had “just gone off the road and into a ditch”.

Because no one was trapped and there were no major injuries or significant damage, the aftermath was left in the hands of police.

  1. Bella Cleary maybe in your article you could state that the truck actually had a tyre blow out causing it to ‘go off the road into a ditch’. Not as if it was driver error. I don’t think he wanted to drive off the road into a ditch…idiot.

    • Kia ora Hayley,

Unfortunately, we can only report on what we know and are told. As you will see from reading the article, a FENZ spokesperson simply said the truck had: “just gone off the road and into a ditch”.

      Ngaa mihi,
      Marlee
