Carterton crash
Two people with minor injuries from two separate vehicles have been taken to Wellington Hospital by ambulance after a car and a milk tanker collided at the intersection of Woodlands Rd and Kokotau Rd, Carterton at 8am yesterday. A Fire and Emergency Service spokesperson confirmed that crew did not need to perform a vehicle extrication. The road was cleared by 9.20am.
Māori Ward
Carterton District Council [CDC] have announced they will consider introducing a Māori Ward at its next Ordinary Council Meeting as part of its representation review. CDC does not currently have a Māori Ward but instead has two representatives from Hurunui-o-Rangi Marae on the council and one representative on each of the Policy and Projects Committee and the Risk and Assurance Committee.
Stay safe
Waka Kotahi is urging motorists to keep safe this Labour weekend by remembering the fundamentals when driving. Waka Kotahi has updated its Holiday Hotspots journey planning tool on its website for Labour Weekend. The interactive map shows drivers where and when traffic is expected to be heaviest, based on travel patterns from previous years. NZ Police are also keen to highlight the importance of road safety this weekend and want to remind road users there will be a “firm focus on four main causes of death and serious injury on our roads”, not wearing seatbelts, impairment, distractions, and speed.
Grazing

Masterton District Council says people can apply for Grazing Permits on their website. Visit mstn.govt.nz and search ‘Livestock’ if you would like to graze your stock on the road reserve. Permits, once approved, are granted for a period of three full months from the date of approval. There are several rules and regulations to follow, all of which can be found on the application form on the website.
New officers
Metlink’s new warranted transport officers have officially begun patrolling bus, train and ferry services this week. The officers will be available for assistance with tickets, directions and other customer services. As part of their role, officers will also be checking fares and ticket holders.
