Trick or treat

With Halloween on the horizon, Masterton District Council [MDC] are encouraging people to register their home as ‘trick or treater friendly’ – through its ‘HalloWhere?’ map. The map – which is published on MDC’s website in the days leading up to Halloween – will indicate whether you would like trick-or-treaters knocking on your door. Meet the Mayor

The Featherston Community Centre is having a Meet the Mayor session with South Wairarapa District Mayor Martin Connelly from 9–11am today.

Hill closure

Those planning to travel over the hill on Sunday night may want to reschedule plans. Waka Kotahi has advised that the hill will be closed between 9pm to 4am as part of ongoing scheduled closures to carry out essential maintenance. Escorted crossings are available but must be booked in advance. To book, email [email protected]. There is another night closure scheduled for Sunday, November 5, and more information can be found on Waka Kotahi’s website.

Hill breakdown

Police received a report that a truck had broken down on Remutaka Hill yesterday morning. Police attended at 9.25am, and a spokesperson for Waka Kotahi confirmed the incident was on the Featherston side of the hill. No major issues or traffic delays were reported.

GWRC consultation

Greater Wellington Regional Council opened its Draft Future Development Strategy for consultation yesterday. The strategy outlines goals for housing and business development in the Wairarapa, Wellington and Horowhenua regions, prioritising development on strategic public networks. Objectives outlined included planning for an additional 200,000 people and 99,000 more homes for the Wairarapa, Wellington and Horowhenua. Consultation is open until November 9.

Traffic stop

Police pulled one person over after they received reports of their vehicle drifting over the centre line of the road on Dixon St and Chapel St at 4.30pm yesterday.
