Water shutdown

A water shutdown is planned for Lansdowne tonight from 9pm until tomorrow morning at 5am. The shutdown is for Kitchener St but will affect most of the Lansdowne suburb too. Masterton District Council [MDC] suggests that residents fill up containers with water to use as needed and try not to use hot taps while the water is off – the hot water cylinder may be damaged if the water gets too low. MDC warns that the water may have a milky-white appearance once the supply is turned back on, but this will not affect taste or quality. The appearance is caused by small air bubbles in the water supply, which should clear from your pipes after running your tap for a few minutes.

Planned outages

Masterton’s Hurley St has a planned Powerco outage today affecting five households. These works for cross-arm repair will take up to six hours and will take place between 9am-3pm. There is also tree trimming planned in Featherston today, where 88 properties on Hikunui Rd, Pahautea Rd, and Buicks Rd may be affected between 8.45am-4pm. Also in Featherston today, Powerco is replacing poles and crossarms. These works will take place between 9.15am-3.15pm, affecting 58 properties.

Weed spraying at Carrington

Carterton District Council[CDC] annual weed spraying at Carrington Park – which has been rescheduled from Monday, September 25 due to weather – starts early today [weather permitting]. The spray will be placed around the playground and Carterton School sports grounds. A spokesperson for CDC has warned people to stay off the grass and to keep pets away while the council is working. Keep an eye out for warning signs at the park entrances. Once dry, the grass will be safe to walk on.

Upgrade to
infrastructure

Carterton District Council will start work this month on a new water rider main on High Street North between Rhodes Street and 280 High Street Nth [SH2]. This project will remove all the water supply laterals from the live lanes of the SH2. The work will allow Waka Kotahi/NZTA to repair the pavements and road surface without the restrictions of shallow laterals. It is anticipated the project will help mitigate future maintenance costs for the council.
