Namana update
A police spokesperson told the Times-Age yesterday that search teams comprising Police Search and Rescue and two Victim Recovery dogs and handlers were flown into the Waiohine Gorge area yesterday morning. The team are tasked to spend two days [yesterday and today] searching for missing man Michael Namana – also known as Michael MacGregor – who was last seen at Mt Holdsworth on July 31.
CCTV approved
CCTV in the CBD has been approved and work to install it will occur later this month. The installation will be part of the council’s Infrastructure and Services Committee capital investments. High-definition cameras will be installed at the town’s northern roundabout and at the skatepark beside Queen Elizabeth Park. Coverage will also be expanded to include the Wrigley St carpark and its intersection with Chapel St due to anecdotal theft activity.
Open hours
South Wairarapa District Council have provided an update on opening hours for tomorrow: Martinborough Council office will open at 10.30am instead of 9am and Featherston Library will open at 10.30am instead of 9.30am.
Sing with Rita
Aratoi is hosting a ‘Singing with Rita’ event this Friday at 5pm; an evening filled with sounds from The Songbirds and The Featherston Gentlemen Singers. The concert will be in the gallery surrounded by the Rita Angus: New Zealand Modernist | He Ringatoi Hou o Aotearoa exhibition. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased by emailing [email protected] – with limited tickets available at the door.
Road closure
Masterton’s High St will be closed tonight for Masterton District Council works. These works will be near the Chapel St roundabout, and the road will be closed from 8pm to 4am. A detour via local roads will be signposted.
Rural resilience
The Tararua District has secured $250,000 through the Ministry for Primary Industries to increase support for communities likely to be cut off during extreme weather events. The funding is part of a $35.4 million package announced in Budget 2023. Eight communities eligible for funding will be identified and have a plan developed.
